Carnagat Community Association in conjunction with Youth Advice Support & Information Point (YASIP) hosted an event in the Carnagat Community House around the effects that cannabis can have on young people in our society today.
The Carnagat Community Association is a group of residents who live in the Carnagat Area and act as a representative voice for all the residents of the Greater Carnagat Area. They run a number of activities, trips and events throughout the year and represent the residents of Carnagat at meetings concerning the area and its development. The community association is based at the Carnagat Community House, Parkhead Crescent.

A number of people attended this event to find out what drugs are in our society today and how they can affect our young people.
People were amazed at how easy and cheap it is for young people to get access to these drugs and how it is affecting their personal development now and later on in life. They also got their eyes opened to how much drugs have become the social norm in our society today and how important it is to inform and show our young people the affect drugs can have on them.
One participant thought this type of event would be very beneficial to young people by opening their eyes to the long term damaging effects that drugs can have on their bodies and personal appearance.
Drug use has been a major problem in Carnagat as well as many other communities in the Newry area and the Carnagat Community Association hope that this event is the first stepping stone in trying to tackle this problem in our community in order to give our young people a brighter future.
