Castlewellan's popular May Day Fair returns on Monday 4 May, running from 9am to 5pm with a full day of free, family-friendly activities organised by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.

Now in its latest edition, the council says this year's event is set to be the biggest yet, with a wider range of attractions on offer across the town for visitors of all ages.

Activities will be spread along Main Street and across both the Upper and Lower Squares, adjacent to Castlewellan Library, formerly the Market House, an area with a long history at the heart of local trading.

Traders will be selling a wide range of goods throughout the day, with many of the town's independent shops and businesses also offering special Spring Fair deals. Artisan makers and creators will be showcasing work including knitwear, jewellery, paintings, woodcraft and photography, alongside artisan food and coffee.

Entertainment across the day includes live music, dance performances, children's activities and outdoor games. There will be traditional music performed by Comhaltas members on the Lower Square stage, with local artists Conal Montgomery and Roisin McLaughlin also performing. Magician Trevor Price will be making an appearance, as will the Jenna Finnegan Dance Company, featuring young dancers, and face painting will be available for children.

Councillor Philip Campbell, Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, said: "Castlewellan May Fair has proven to be a very popular addition to our events calendar, bringing a great atmosphere to the town. We would love you to join us and enjoy a great family day out. The May Fair presents an opportunity for people of all ages to come together and enjoy everything it has to offer."

Public parking will not be available at Upper Square during the event, though free parking is available at Bann Road. Further information is available at www.visitmournemountains.co.uk/castlewellanfair.
