Chance for Older Citizens to have their say

Older citizens in Newry and Mourne have been given the opportunity to put forward their opinions on a range of issues with the goal of making our City and district a better place for them.

Newry and Mourne District Council is working in partnership with a wide range of key agencies with responsibility for improving the outcomes for our older citizens to develop an Age Friendly Strategy for the district.

In 2012 the Council signed the Dublin Declaration which commits it to the World Health Organisation’s Age Friendly Cities Initiative and under the Council’s Memorandum of Understanding with Louth Local Authorities we will be working closely with them to deliver this initiative.

In order to develop the Strategy the Council is undertaking consultation with older citizens to identify their priorities for consideration in an Age Friendly Strategy.

The Strategy will encourage and promote active ageing by maximising opportunities for health, participation and security to enhance quality of life as people age.

The Council is looking for your opinions on a range of issues which impact on making the district Age Friendly.  To have your say complete the Age Friendly Survey at www.newryandmourne.gov.uk with replies to be received by 31st March.

If you require the Survey in an alternative format please contact 028 3031 3095.

The Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Councillor John McArdle said:

“This is a great opportunity to give your opinion on what would promote Active Ageing in Newry and Mourne and I would encourage everyone to complete this Survey”
