The proceeds of a concert in March were presented recently to PIPS Hope and Support.

The concert saw the Canal Court Hotel come alive with musicians, singers and songwriters who performed at the ’40 Shades of Green’ concert to raise awareness of mental health and to encourage individuals to use music to support their own mental health.

Ring of Gullion Comhaltas (Forkhill), Sinéad Smyth Murphy (Granemore), The Ghost of Horslips (Newry), Traditional Arts Partnership (South Armagh) and The Two Five Ones (Monaghan) provided the entertainment throughout the evening which was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance.

Ticket contributions and a raffle raised a superb £400 to support the essential services delivered by local charity PIPS Hope and Support. On completion of the event, The Ghost of Horslips tribute group’s, John Cosgrove and Canal Court Hotel & Spa’s, Louise Young presented the proceeds to PIPS Hope and Support’s, Padraig Harte.

Speaking in relation to the event, main organiser Gerald Cosgrove said “The primary aim of this event was to inspire individuals to use music to strengthen their own mental health and to raise funds for local mental health charities. We held a similar event ‘Dingle to Donegal’ and following is success decided to do the same in the Newry area whilst supporting PIPS Hope and Support.”

Gerald continued “the concert was a huge success and it would not have been possible without the time, efforts and experience from our groups who performed and from the many local businesses who sponsored the event inclusive of Apex Print, Newry, Beat it Music Equipment BlackRock Co. Louth, Canal Court Hotel & Spa Newry, Good as New 'Let's get Ireland Playing music' CD covers Monaghan and all the Musicians, Singers and Songwriters who contributed to our "Learning the LANGUAGE of MUSIC to Look after your Mental Health" campaign. Our thanks also to all the shop keepers who very kindly offered to put up posters in their shops in the Newry/Warrenpoint/Rostrevor/ Camlough & Bessbrook areas and to the local businesses who sponsored raffle prizes.

Also, the Musicians, Singers and Songwriters have collaborated ALL FOR CHARITY to produce an original Wellbeing awareness raiser song called 'Coping with Fear' and are looking for a local Newry recording studio to sponsor one evening to record their awareness raising song (3 hours recording time should be enough). If anyone can assist with this, please email me at keepkeltic@gmail.com. The next ALL FOR CHARITY event called 'Fear Less' is a collaboration between local Galway based musicians together with 'Poetry Cooperative' and will be hosted by the Róisín Dubh bar in Galway city on 7th July 2022. In keeping with all previous ALL FOR CHARITY awareness raising/fundraiser events, the local mental health Charity Jigsaw on Eyre Square will benefit 100% from all funds raised and we would love for you to join us.”

PIPS Hope and Support’s fundraising coordinator, Padraig Harte extended this message on behalf of the charity:

“PIPS Hope and Support send a massive thank you to Gerald for organising this fantastic event. Our sincere thanks to the musicians, songwriters and musicians for their time and talents, to the sponsors for their continued support and to anyone who helped in any way to make this event the success that it was.

Everyone’s support throughout is appreciated by all of us here at PIPS and will help us in providing our immediate therapy to anyone with suicidal thoughts, high levels of anxiety, poor mental health or bereaved by suicide.”
