Police are appealing for witnesses after a two vehicle collision on the main Newry to Armagh road yesterday afternoon, 31 October. Three children were taken to hospital, with one remaining in a critical condition following the incident at the junction of Killycarn Road and Gosford Road (Armagh Road) near Markethill. A woman in her 30s has been arrested and remains in police custody.
Inspector Brown said: “The Cusher Road has now reopened to traffic, however police enquiries remain ongoing this morning, and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, and who may have any mobile phone or dash cam footage, which might assist us, to get in touch.”
Giving details of the incident, he said: “Shortly after 1.20pm, officers and colleagues from the emergency services attended a report of a collision involving a car and another car which was towing a caravan.
“Three children were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries. Two of the children sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision, whilst the third remains in a critical condition in hospital at this time.”
Police confirmed that a woman in her 30s was subsequently arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs. Inspector Brown said: “She remains in police custody at this time, assisting with enquiries.”
