St Patrick's Parish Church of Ireland in Newry is opening its doors for a four-day Christmas Tree Festival in December, celebrating the joy and hope of the festive season.
The church on the corner of Stream Street and Church Street, will welcome visitors from Thursday 4 December to Sunday 7 December to enjoy its beauty and history whilst exploring the festival displays. Established on its present site in 1578, St Patrick's has long been dedicated to Christian worship and community service.
This year, as Christmas approaches, the church is joining with the wider Diocesan initiative to Speak Jesus over Newry. The Christmas Tree Festival plays a meaningful role in this venture, with organisers hoping visitors will find space to reflect, appreciate and be inspired as they walk through the church and pause at each display.
Each Christmas tree on display highlights a valued and vital group within the community, reminding visitors how deeply we need and appreciate one another. The church says that most importantly that time at the festival will help people reflect on the true meaning of Christmas: the birth of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the World - Emmanuel, God with us and for us, in this season and in every season of our lives.
The festival begins with an opening service on Thursday 4 December at 7pm. The church building will then be open on Friday 5 December and Saturday 6 December between 12 noon and 8pm. On Sunday 7 December, the building will be open between 2pm and 6pm, with a closing service at 7pm.
