A Family History Day is being held at Newry Museum on the 16th of May 2013.
The day will examine where sources can be found and how to make the best use of them in compiling a family history. It will look at alternative ways of approaching the topic for those who are having difficulty identifying documentary sources.
As family history is becoming ever more popular, this event will be of great interest to anyone interested in discovering their roots. The speakers will give an overview of sources used for family history research both locally and nationally.
Roddy Hegarty will give an introduction to family history sources that are available and how these can help uncover the stories of your ancestors.
Shane McGivern will be discussing the important sources for family and local history at the Museum such as the Reside Collection and the Hugh Irvine Collection. Both of these collections are wide ranging and shed light on many aspects of local History in the Newry area.
Dr. Robert Whan will highlight further sources available at the Museum and the potential value that they hold for researchers. Robert will discuss documents in the Museum collection including electoral lists, business records, Council leases and street directories.
The event will commence at 9:30am. There is a cost of £5 per person with lunch provided. Seating is strictly limited so booking is essential.
