Newry and Mourne District Council’s Administration Department, Finance Department and Equality Unit have each been awarded the Government’s Customer Service Excellence Standard Award.

This now brings to three the number of Departments within Council having achieved the standard as the Building Control Department has already been awarded the CSE Standard last year.

This Award is given to those organisations that demonstrate they provide efficient, effective, excellence, equitable and empowering services for its citizens.

Customer Service Excellence offered the Council a practical tool for driving customer-focused change within the organisation, ensuring continued improvement for our citizens.

The Award, which is independently validated, tests in depth those areas, which are considered a priority for customers, such as delivery, timeliness, information, professionalism and staff attitude. It enables the Council to develop a thorough understanding of customer insight, examining users’ experience and measuring their levels of satisfaction.

The Mayor of Newry and Mourne District Council, Councillor John Feehan said: “This is a tremendous achievement for the Council which recognizes the high quality of service provided by its employees. I congratulate the Administration Department, Finance Department and Equality Unit on obtaining the CSE Standard and I know the Council will continue to drive customer excellence in everything it does”

The Clerk of Council, Mr Thomas Mc Call congratulated all staff who contributed in achieving this prestigious award and stated that he was personally delighted and proud that Newry and Mourne District Council has acquired the Customer Service Excellence Standard.

The Director of Administration Mr. Edwin Curtis said: “Achievement of the CSE Standard in the Administration Department and Equality Unit reflects the Council’s commitment to ensuring that it continues to improve its customer focused service delivery, identifying areas and methods of improvement for the benefit of our citizens. There are increasing challenges facing Local Government at present and we will continue through CSE to ensure that we provide excellent services”,

The Director of Finance, Mr. Robert Dowey said: “In preparing for the CSE Standard Award, our employees were able to explore and acquire new skills in the areas of customer focus and engagement, thus building their capacity for delivering improved services for all. Achieving the CSE Standard is the first step and we will continue to improve our service delivery which will be evaluated through annual assessment”.
