Tomorrow nights meeting of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council will see a motion put forward asking for the establishment of a sub committee which would identify funding streams for council capital and community projects such as the Newry City park.
The motion is being put forward by Newry City Councillor Michael Savage and follows hot on the heels of a motion from Cllr David Lee Surginor at last months council meeting asking for the council to apply to the PeacePlus fund for the rest of the money for the park. The motion wasn't allowed to be discussed at the meeting and was referred to be heard at a committee meeting AFTER the closing date for Peace funding applications. PeacePlus funding applications have to be in by this Thursday 7 September.
Notice of Motion
“Council recognises the challenges in securing funding for landmark capital and community projects across the district and agrees to establish a Standing Sub-Committee of Council Officers and nominated Councillors tasked with overseeing the identification of funding streams relevant to Council capital and community projects and the timely delivery of funding applications.
The Sub-Committee will meet monthly and report to the Strategy, Policy and Resources Committee which will agree the Terms of Reference of the Standing Sub-Committee in October 2023 for approval at the November 2023 Full Council Meeting”.
