The PSNI are investigating a number of recent burglaries locally and are keen to trace a grey VW golf with a black bonnet (possible English reg), that has been spotted in the south Down/south Armagh areas recently. If you see or have seen this vehicle, please call 101 quoting reference 643 01/12/17.

Slieve Gullion Councillor Kate Loughran has urged local residents and business owners in Bessbrook to exercise vigilance following recent burglaries in the area

Cllr Loughran said, "Over the past week I’ve been made aware of the number of burglaries in the Bessbrook area and I would encourage local people to exercise vigilance and look out for their neighbours in the days ahead. We are heading into the Christmas period and the last thing any of us need is to become a victim of a burglary.

"I have to commend those people who took to social media recently to warn neighbours of suspicious vehicles that were seen in the area. I would encourage anyone who does see anything of concern to get in touch with the PSNI as soon as possible."

Councillor Roisin Mulgrew has also urged all home owners within the Bessbrook area to be extra vigilant "In a matter of hours on Thursday evening past, four homes and two local businesses were broken into. This recent spate of robberies, a carbon copy of the type of attacks on our homes and property that we as a community suffered last year, has caused great concern

"I have spoken directly to the PSNI and requested the deployment of extra patrols in the area in response to this latest criminal activity. I also urge everyone to be extra vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Those engaged in these criminal attacks on our homes and properties, need to be apprehended and face the full rigours of the law."
