Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has officially launched its Be Active Summer Programme 2025, with bookings opening from 10am on Monday 16 June, for what promises to be a fun-filled and action-packed summer across the district.
The programme, which runs throughout July and August, is designed to keep children and young people active, engaged and entertained over the summer holidays through a wide range of sporting and recreational activities. From outdoor and indoor swimming to basketball, squash, table tennis and much more, the programme offers something for everyone - with inclusive and accessible options available across all Council leisure facilities.
Deputy Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Councillor Geraldine Kearns, officially launched the programme and welcomed its return, “We’re delighted to launch the 2025 Be Active Summer Programme, which continues to provide high-quality opportunities for children and young people to stay physically active and socially connected throughout the summer break. The Council is committed to promoting healthy lifestyles from an early age and this programme is a fantastic way to support that aim.”
“With a wide range of fun and inclusive activities on offer, there’s something to suit every interest and ability. I encourage all families across the district to get involved and make the most of what’s on offer this summer.”
Some of the programme highlights include:
- Multi-Sports camps for primary school-aged children
- Teen Activity Week
- Camps for children with physical disabilities and neurodiversity such as autism and ADHD (Wheelie Active has been replaced by these programmes)
- Autism-friendly swim sessions
- The reopening of Tropicana outdoor swimming complex. for the summer season
- And many other Council-supported sports initiatives across the district
All activities are led by qualified staff and aim to ensure that young people have access to safe, supportive and enjoyable experiences throughout the summer months.
