Couple in 70's attacked in Warrenpoint Burglary

Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a burglary of a house in Warrenpoint  last night, Friday 9 November, which saw a couple in their 70's assaulted. The attack took place at Elmfield Villas in the town around 8pm.

Three males forced their way into the home of the couple.  The lady of the house was grabbed and thrown to the ground and her husband was grabbed by the throat. The suspects then searched the house and made off with a sum of cash, a mobile phone, 3 white gold rings and a males leather wallet.

Detective Sergeant Connor said: “This was a horrific attack and this couple endured a frightening and violent violation of their home. The individuals who carried out this attack have nothing to offer society and need to face the full rigor of the law.

"I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward and help us with our investigation.  Did you see anything suspicious in the Elmfield area or the Upper Dromore Road area of Warrenpoint yesterday evening or last night, were you driving in the area at around 8pm and have a dash cam?

Cowardly Attack

Warrenpoint Councillor Mickey Ruane condemned the burglary  “This was a cowardly attack which has shocked the community. Three masked men entered the home of this elderly couple in the Elmfield Villas estate shortly after they returned home from shopping in Newry. They were subjected to an aggressive and violent ordeal at the hands of these cowards.

“I visited the victims of this appalling crime. Considering their ordeal they were in good spirits and very thankful for the support of their neighbours.

“However, it is crucial that they and all in our community are protected. I am calling on anyone who may have any information about this robbery to come forward to the PSNI and help bring these criminals responsible to justice."
