An Alliance Candidate in Crotlieve DEA has called for investment in Warrenpoint town.
Daniel Neary said: "Watching politics in Northern Ireland has long been a frustrating experience. Between the cycle of stop and start at Stormont, mismanagement at council level, and the seemingly endless vitriol it seems little wonder that people have become frustrated. I was just the same.
It was in 2019 that I decided to channel that frustration in the hopes I could help change things, and joined the Alliance Party. And though it has only been four years, in that short time it feels as though momentum has begun to shift. In 2022, Alliance won our first ever Assembly seat in South Down, in no small part thanks to the voters of Crotlieve, showing that if you vote for it, then change really is possible.
Having lived in Warrenpoint and Rostrevor for my entire life, I want to see our communities given the support and investment they deserve. Whilst council is focused on spending tens of millions on a new Civic Centre for Newry and a £44m gondola as part of the ‘Mournes Gateway Project’, I want to see fair and equitable investment in my local area. Warrenpoint is the second largest town in the district and yet is consistently neglected when it comes to council capital investment. We must harness the potential of Crotlieve by investing in active travel and improving cross-border tourism links. I believe Crotlieve can become the real gateway to the Mournes.
I am standing not just as an individual, but as part of a strong, dedicated team of Alliance candidates across Newry, Mourne & Down. Alliance is the only party fully committed to scrutinising the waste of ratepayers' money on exorbitant capital projects, and will work to ensure that council decisions are made in an open and transparent manner. Only a strong, united Alliance team can hold council management to account effectively and put an end to the political cover granted to council by the SDLP and Sinn Fein.
On the 18th of May we have the chance to elect an Alliance councillor in Crotlieve for the first time ever, as part of our largest ever council team in Newry, Mourne & Down. But for that to happen we need your support. On election day vote Alliance, because even when our politics doesn't, Alliance Works."
