The Newry branch of Cruse Bereavement Support have received a cheque for £662 from the McElroy family in memory of their son Stephen who died in 2015.
Pattie and Paul McElroy set up "SMART NI", the Stephen McElroy Appreciation and Remembrance Team in memory of their young son, Stephen, who sadly passed away aged eleven. SMART NI raises funds for local good causes, organising events and activities to help support local charities and those in need. Stephen was sports mad and loved all sports, especially Gaelic football, soccer and rugby and so the family raised money to build a pitch, Stephen's Green, at his former Primary School, St. Mary's, Dechomet, near Castlewellan.
Cruse offers support to children, adults and young people who are suffering devastating grief and all their services are free and open to all.
Thelma Abernethy, Head of Cruse NI said "We would like to thank the McElroy family and SMART NI for their continued support for Cruse. At a time when it is financially difficult for charities, due to the cost-of-living crisis and the rise in the number of people needing our help, we are extremely grateful for their support and the support of the wider local community. The death of a loved one is something we will all experience at some stage in our lives and Cruse is here to help those in need when they need it most".
