The SOS Daisy Hill Committee are hosting a Public Rally next weekend for residents to show their anger at the reduction in services at Daisy Hill Hospital. The committee decided to return to the streets at a packed meeting in Newry earlier this month. The group held a large rally back in April and on Monday past they met the Department of Health, Permanent Secretary, Peter May but despite some positive soundings at that meeting they feel it is important to keep the pressure on both the Southern Trust and the Department until words turn into action.
Speaking after the meeting Francis Gallagher Chairman of the SOS Daisy Hill Committee said, “To show the members of the Southern Health and Social Services Trust Board Members and Management how angry the community of Newry South Down and South Armagh, my committee have agreed to organise another Public Rally in Newry to allow our residents to vote with their feet regarding the reduction in medical services and March from Marcus Square to Daisy Hill Hospital.“
The Public Rally will be held at 2pm on Sunday 25 June 2023 at Marcus Square Newry and protestors will then walk to Daisy Hill Hospital.
Gallagher concluded, “ I am calling on the communities in Newry, South Armagh, South Down and residents from Louth , Monaghan and Cavan who use Daisy Hill Hospital Services to please attend our Rally. It is very important that as many people as possible attend this event, we need to display our anger at the reduction in medical Services at Daisy Hill Hospital. I am saying hands off Daisy Hill Hospital”
