Write a commentSir John Leslie from Castle Leslie, Glaslough has died at the age of 99.
During the second World War he served as an officer in the Irish Guards and was captured in France and spent five years in a POW camp.
At the end of last year he was awarded Frances top military honour the Legion d'Honneur at the French Embassy in Dublin. He was a first cousin once removed of Winston Churchill.
A colourful character, Sir Jack as he was affectionately known certainly wasn't mundane, enjoying disco dancing well into his 80's and even in his 90's he was a complete pleasure to listen to as he took you on a tour of his home talking about his life and the castle during the war and of course the ghosts.
Announcing his death on the Castle Leslie Facebook page the family said "The Leslie Family are sad to announce that Captain Sir John [Uncle Jack] Leslie Bt (age 99) passed away peacefully in his sleep this morning with the dawn chorus surrounded by his family."

His earthly presence may be gone but I'm sure his spirit will continue to live on in every facet of Castle Leslie.
