Write a commentA Programme that gives carers the opportunity to develop their knowledge about dementia and access information to support them in their caring role, begins on Tuesday the 14th of October.
The course organised by the Alzheimers Society and Newry Carer Information lasts for 6 Tuesdays and focuses on a different topic each night.
The event runs from 7pm – 9pm each night at Ballybot House,Newry (Room C – Second Floor)

14th October – What is dementia? (Dr Macauley, Consultant Psychiatrist)
21st October - Overview of Memory Service (Siobhan Corrigan, Social Worker) and Alzheimer’s Society (Aisling Smith, Dementia Support Worker)
28th October – Hearing (Action on Hearing Loss), Diet (Esther Wright, Dietician) and Sight (Optomise)
4th November – Assistive Technology Equipment (247 Care Direct), Benefits Entitlements (Catherine Redmond, Outreach Officer)
11th November – Finance & Legal Affairs/Power of Attorney, (Conor Murphy, Office of Care and Protection), Financial Assessment & Nursing Home Fees, (Zoe Beckett, Valerie Rooney & Daniel Bartsch, Financial Assessment Team)
18th November – Behaviour & coping strategies (Gayle Smyth, Community Psychiatric Nurse, Memory Team)
