Minister Kimmins and Cllr Kearns meet with local residents at Fiveways to discuss safety issues.

A meeting has taken place on site regarding pedestrian safety concerns at Fiveways, following long standing concerns raised by residents in the area. Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins and DFI officials joined local residents for the discussion, which was arranged by Newry City Councillor Geraldine Kearns.

The meeting focused on the difficulties faced by pedestrians attempting to cross the busy Craigmore Way, an issue residents and representatives say has been raised for many years. Following the meeting, the Minister and her officials agreed to carry out a full assessment of the site in order to establish what new safety measures could be introduced.

Speaking afterwards, Cllr Kearns said: "For many years local residents and representatives have been highlighting the serious safety concerns when trying to cross the busy Craigmore Way. I was really pleased to facilitate this meeting with the Minister and her officials. They have now agreed to undertake a full assessment of the site to inform what new safety measures can be implemented."

Cllr Kearns also thanked residents for raising the issue and pledged to continue working with them alongside the Minister and her officials going forward. She added: "I want to thank the efforts of those residents who brought this to our attention. I will continue to work with them, the Minister and her officials. Sinn Féin are committed to improving and enhancing road safety across our community, and despite the very challenging budgetary position of the Executive at Stormont, we are determined to work hard to ensure we see the local delivery that people deserve."
