A forty foot trailer containing a large number of diesel laundering cubes has been abandoned in a lay-by on the Dublin Road outside Newry.
The incident has been condemned by Newry, Mourne and Down District Councillor, Roisin Mulgrew who appealed for anyone with information to contact the police.
Cllr Mulgrew said “This has happened on four previous occasions this year alone. This material is poisonous to our environment and those behind this illegal activity have no regard for our community.
“Cleaning up this costs the council and ratepayers huge amounts of money and those behind this dumping must understand the negative impact this has on community development.
“The community does not want these toxins unleashed upon it. It is long past time that those involved in Diesel laundering stopped poisoning their country, neighbours and their own families.
The Newry City representative concluded “I appeal with anyone who may have seen anything to contact the relevant authorities.”
