If you're Armagh bound next week leave yourself some extra time as essential maintenance work is set to take place on the A28 Armagh to Newry Road between Markethill and Armagh next week. The investment, announced by Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins, will see road surface repairs, markings and drainage improvements carried out on the busy route.
The works are scheduled to take place from Monday 27 October to Friday 31 October between 9.30am and 4.30pm. They have been timed to coincide with the school half-term break to minimise disruption to road users.
Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan welcomed the announcement, describing the A28 as a vital route connecting Armagh and Newry that is heavily used by local people, commuters and businesses. Cathal Boylan said: "I've worked closely with the Department for Infrastructure to get this scheme over the line, and I'm pleased to see it moving ahead. These essential safety works will improve road conditions and deliver real benefits for everyone who uses this route."
The MLA thanked Minister Liz Kimmins for prioritising the investment and for her continued focus on improving rural and regional road infrastructure.
Daytime road closures will be required during the works, and diversions will be in place. Road users are advised to allow additional time for their journeys and to follow all traffic management measures.
Mr Boylan added that Sinn Féin will continue working to ensure that rural communities see continued investment in the infrastructure they rely on every day.
