Dog rescued after fall over quarry edge

The NI Fire and Rescue Service had a rescue with a difference over the weekend when they recovered a dog that had fallen around 80ft off the top of cliffs at the quarry on Hillhead Road in Newry.

Nidge a staffie had fallen off the cliff around 5pm on Friday and remained on a ledge until rescued on Saturday morning. In all around 12 rescue crew members were involved and the rescue was called off until Saturday due to darkness.

It would have been hard to watch for the owners as the dog was barking and trying to climb back up.

Nidge was none the worse for wear apart from a few scratches.
