Some may say that Benny Coulter has a ‘sweet left foot’ but has he got ‘two left feet’? Is top referee Brendan Rice as quick with the two-step as he is with his whistle. Can Kyla Trainor move as quick on stage as she can on the football field?. Are County Secretary Sean Og McAteer’s dancing shoes as sharp as his pen? Can camogie ace Grainne O’Higgins dance better than her mother?
These are just some of the burning questions that are about to be answered when Down GAA ‘Does Strictly’ in The Canal Court Hotel, Newry on Friday 15th November. Eleven couples are participating.
A night of craic and entertainment is in store when a star studded line up of some of Down GAA’s best known faces take to the stage for what will be an action packed and fun filled event.
One person swopping the green sward of the GAA playing fields for the red carpet and stage of the Canal Court is former All-Star Benny Coulter. While a bit nervous Benny is looking forward to the challenge
He said; “Give me a jersey any day; this is nerve wrecking, but it will be a bit of fun. There will be a bit of banter with some friendly rivalry, but it will all be in good sport. Still, it will be great to get the chance to show that I’m not only a better footballer that Polie (Mark Poland), but a better dancer too.”
Mark Poland naturally disagrees saying that “My huge fan base in the Mournes will give me an added edge and I am confident of winning. Sure Benny is not even the best dancer from Mayobridge on the stage as he’s not in the same league as Sinead McNamee, who is partnering Niall Madine.”
The doors will open at 7.00 p.m. and tickets can be obtained at the Down County Office in Castlewellan. They will also be on sale at the Senior/Minor finals on Sunday 20th October.
