Down Right Brilliant announced today that it has received an award of €15,000 from the third annual AIB Community €1 Million Fund, to help with its work with children and young people with Down Syndrome in the Newry, Mourne and Down communities.

Speaking about receipt of the award, Caroline Digney Chair of Down Right Brilliant said: “We’re over the moon to receive this grant from the AIB Community €1 Million Fund, it’s going to make such a difference and is key to maintaining and improving the services and support we offer to children and young people with Down Syndrome in the local community, as well as to their families.

Over the last two years, the AIB Community €1 Million Fund has supported over 150 charities across Northern Ireland, Ireland and Great Britain. Earlier this year, AIB asked its customers, the wider public, and staff to again nominate registered charities, that connect with causes that matter most to them and their communities, in the AIB Community €1 Million Fund.

Down Right Brilliant, based in Newry, is a charity that encourages children and young adults with Down Syndrome to achieve their full potential and integration within the local community, as well as providing support to all new parents of babies with Down Syndrome.

The charity will use the funding to provide an inclusive, tailored summer camp specifically for children and young adults with Down Syndrome and their siblings, ensuring that there are respite opportunities for parents over the summer holidays.

“We are so grateful for everyone who thought of us and nominated us for this funding. It’s so touching because it shows just how much our efforts in the community are appreciated and acknowledged, and a huge thank you to the team at AIB for making this possible.”

Speaking about the Fund, Diana Johnston, Branch Manager at AIB Newry said: “The AIB Community Fund gives much needed support to local charities helping them continue to provide services in communities across Northern Ireland. It’s the third year for the AIB Community Fund and it’s amazing to see both customer and public support for nominations, this really demonstrates the importance of local charities and their contribution they make. I would like to take this opportunity to give heartfelt thanks to our customers and the public for nominating these deserving organisations.”
