Write a commentDetectives from the organised crime branch have recovered an estimated £160K of Class A and B drugs and a quantity of cash following serches of two houses in Bessbrook yesterday.
They arrested two men and a woman. The men aged 33 and 27 and the woman aged 27 were arrested for possession of Class A and Class B controlled drug with intent to supply and possession of criminal property.
Commenting on the arrests MLA Conor Murphy said "This significant seizure of drugs means that lives have been saved. It is essential that the PSNI is effective in removing drugs from our streets and also arresting those believed to be involved in the supply trade. These people have no regard for the people in their own communities, but instead are fuelled by a selfish desire to make money from others’ addictions"
Council Chairperson Roisin Mulgrew added "I share the delight of the community that such a huge amount of drugs have been taken off our streets. I urge the Police to continue to pursue those who engage in the world of illicit drugs, and ensure they face the full rigours of the law.There should be no hiding place for them.”
Councillor David Taylor also welcomed the recovery of drugs “I welcome the Police operation undertaken in the Bessbrook area which has resulted in the recovery of a quantity of Class A and Class B controlled drugs worth an estimated street value of £160,000. I know also that the seizure of such a large quantity of drugs has been warmly received by the community locally.
“I want to congratulate the Police on this successful operation and indeed their continued work to remove the scourge of drugs from within society. I have no doubt the public will be relieved that the quantity of drugs recovered will be no longer available for supply on our streets.”
