Write a commentA search is ongoing at a property in Newry after Detectives from Serious Crime Branch investigating the murder of Eamon Collins in Newry in January 1999 arrested a 42 year old man in the city this morning.
The suspect has been taken to Antrim police station for questioning. Mr Collins was knocked down, beaten and stabbed while out walking his dogs on 27 January 1999 in the Dorans Hill area of the city.
Detective Chief Inspector Peter Montgomery, from Serious Crime Branch, said: "I would ask those with information about Mr Collins’ murder, particularly those in the Barcroft estate, to think again about the awfulness of what happened and about the Collins family. It is never too late to come forward.”

A second man, aged 55, has been arrested in the Newry area this afternoon in connection with the investigation by detectives from Serious Crime Branch of the murder of Eamon Collins 15 years ago. The man has been taken to Antrim Police Station for questioning.
