A meeting between Education Minister Michelle McIlveen and Newry Gateway Club at Stormont has resulted in an invitation to the Minister to visit Newry Gateway in recognition of their 50th anniversary.
The meeting was facilitated by Newry and Armagh MLA Justin McNulty who invited the Minister to Newry.
“It was a pleasure for me to be able to facilitate a meeting between Newry Gateway and the Education Minister at Stormont this week. The Department of Education are a key funding partner of the Gateway, and I was determined to ensure that the Minister had the opportunity to hear, first-hand, the transformative impact that Newry Gateway have had on our community since their inception.
“The Gateway is an inspirational organisation who have made an immeasurable impact on the lives of thousands of adults and children with learning disabilities across our area. Inclusion is at the heart of the Gateway’s mission, and through the work of their staff and volunteers, Newry Gateway has changed the lives of people and families the length and breadth of our District.
“Like so many organisations in the voluntary sector, Newry Gateway relies on the kindness of our community and the selflessness of volunteers to provide their vital services. We all know that times are challenging at the moment – for families, businesses, and community organisations. That’s why I have invited the Education Minister to visit Gateway, so that she can see for herself the powerfully positive impact they have upon the lives of their members, and how critical that is to our community moving forward.
“Newry Gateway has served our community with distinction for the last 50 years – I am committed to ensuring that they can continue to bring joy and enrichment to the lives of their members for the next 50 years and beyond.”
