Election Time - 9 Candidates for 6 Newry Seats

Residents of Newry, Mourne and Down Council go to the Polls this Thursday 2 May with 41 seats up for grabs in the entire district.

Candidates will be elected to serve as councillors for a four year term. It's the second election since Newry, Mourne and Down Council came into being in 2015.

In Newry DEA six seats are available with nine candidates putting themselves forward.

Councillors Casey, Harte, Kimmins, Savage and Stokes have put their names forward again while Sarah Jane McAllister, Ricky McGaffin and Helena Young are also on the ballot sheet.

Cllr Davy Hyland is not standing for re-election.

It's the Single Transferable Vote system so candidates are ranked s in order of preference by marking 1, 2, 3 etc. to the names of your candidates on the ballot paper. You can rank as many or as few candidates as you like or just pick one.

You can vote from 7am to 10pm on Thursday. Votes will be counted on Friday and into Saturday if necessary.
