The Equality Commission are engaging in an information gathering exercise on their draft priorities for racial equality and visited Newry and Mourne this week to consult and engage local people and organisations.
The Commission focused on the themes of education, employment, social welfare, health, housing and identity.
Over 30 people attended the event in the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre, including members of the Newry and Mourne District Council Traveller Advisory Group and the Deputy Mayor, Councillor David Taylor.
Councillor Taylor said ‘Newry and Mourne District Council is committed to increasing community cohesion and working with partner organisations to improve the quality of life of our increasingly diverse society.
I would like to thank the Equality Commission for coming to Newry today to ensure our citizens have the opportunity to have their say on the priorities for racial equality"
