The Euro cash machine at the Ulster Bank in Margaret Square, Newry has been decomissioned following the withdrawal of Ulster Bank from south of the border. It was one of two facilities at Banks in the City which were introduced following the introduction of the Euro currency on 1 January 2002. The bank it appears has also stopped selling Euro in the branch.
A note pasted over the screen of the ATM says "This Euro ATM is now out of service. We no longer offer a Euro ATM or sell Euro in branch. Euro can be ordered via our website/ app to be delivered to your home address."
Explaining the reasoning for the change a spokesperson for Ulster Bank said “The Euro dispensing cash machine at the Newry branch was installed and operated by Ulster Bank in the Republic of Ireland. Following Ulster Bank’s withdrawal from the ROI market, the cash machine was taken out of service.
“Ulster Bank continues to support customers wishing to access Euros or any other foreign currency through its mobile banking app, website, or via telephone on 0330 1748525. More information is available here - Ulster Bank Travel Money.”
Currently AIB provide the last Euro dispensing cash machine in Newry at The Mall
