Write a commentA wellbeing event for Intensive Support Scheme foster carers was held at the weekend by the Southern Trust in Win Industrial Estate.
The event was aimed at recognising the central role foster carers play in providing stable, caring homes for vulnerable children and young people whilst also raising awareness of the need for more foster carers.
Carers and young people were given the opportunity to enjoy a number of workshops focusing on overcoming trauma, stress and nutritional advice.
Colm McCafferty, Assistant Director of Corporate Parenting for the Southern Trust, said:“Foster carers provide stable nurturing homes for children and young people who cannot remain with their own families. This event gave our Intensive Support Scheme carers a very much deserved chance to relax whilst gaining information and gathering tips on nutrition for children and overcoming trauma. It also gave them the chance to spend time with other carers and learn from each other’s experiences.”
Foster carer, Dionne Hamilton from Newry said:“I want to thank the Trust for hosting such a brilliant event. I really enjoyed the range of activities on offer especially the ‘Gimme Five’ exercises and the relaxation techniques for the family. I am going to take all these tips home with me to build on my coping strategies and implement into my family’s daily routine.”
The Southern Trust is currently looking to recruit people who can provide short term and long term placements as well as respite care for children and young people under 18 years of age.
