Newry and Armagh MP Mickey Brady was in attendance at last weeks public meeting with the Southern Trust on Daisy Hill in Newry. Speaking after the event he said the meeting highlighted the real impact of Tory cuts on patients and on our frontline health workers.
Mr Brady said “It was important that the Southern Trust heard first hand about the challenges facing patients and staff on waiting lists for beds, for surgery and social care, and that they respond to the concerns that were raised tonight by providing certainty around services at Daisy Hill.
“A decade of Tory cuts has left our health service under staffed, underpaid and under severe pressure to deliver services safely to patients."
Mr Brady believes it is vital that local hospitals like Daisy Hill can provide safe services for the communities it serves now and in the future and that requires an Executive and a health minister.
The MP concluded “There can be no more delay in forming an Executive. Our health workers can’t wait, patients can’t wait and workers and families can’t wait.
“Sinn Féin will make health a priority in a new Executive, investing in tackling waiting lists, recruiting more doctors and nurses and implementing the cancer and mental health strategies.
“There can be no more delay, we need to get to work to support our Health Service now.”
