Write a commentNewry and Armagh MLA Megan Fearon has said her party, Sinn Féin is committed to seeing marriage equality extended across the island.
Ms Fearon was speaking after attending the Tolerantia Awards in Belfast where former President Mary McAleese was named Tolerantia Laureate 2016.
The awards are an initiative of European LGBT organisations to recognise the efforts of individuals and organisations across Europe in creating societies which are free from homophobic and transphobic violence
"Máirtín Ó Muilleoir brought the issue of marriage equality to the Executive this week but it is disappointing that the DUP have again blocked progress,” she said.
"This is first and foremost an equality issue and Sinn Féin is committed to seeing marriage equality extended across the island and we will continue to work toward full equality and human rights for our LGBT community.
"Sinn Féin will now bring forward a Private Members Bill on marriage equality. I hope it will receive support from MLAs across the political spectrum."
