Newry's first ever Christmas Market at the historic Newry Market is being seen as a long term regeneration project by organisers Room Angelz. Plans include over 70 stalls, an Oktoberfest type beer garden and live entertainment.
Newry Market will be transformed for the seasonal celebration that will run Thursday to Sunday for five weeks from 20 November to 21 December with the aim of showcasing local traders and bringing festive cheer and increased footfall to the heart of the city.
The event is being organised by Room Angelz, a Newry based event and venue styling company with over a decade of experience in creating high-impact community events. Noelle Markey from Room Angelz said "Our vision is not just for 2025 - this is a long-term regeneration project, designed to become an annual highlight for Newry and a key draw for cross-border tourism. We are also planning other seasonal market events."
Markey added "This is a free - entry, family focused event and a major opportunity to support the local economy, small businesses, artists, and traders while offering the public an exciting, magical alternative to city markets."
News of the market has been welcomed by Newry City Councillor Doire Finn who is delighted to see the key asset being used to bring life to Newry during the festive season.
Speaking on the market Cllr Finn said: "This is fantastic news for Newry. I have been working with event organisers and council officials to push for a revitalisation of Newry Market since I joined the Council in 2023, and I am delighted to see this initiative coming to fruition. The Christmas Market will not only bring vibrancy and a Christmas atmosphere to the city centre, but it’s also a real win for local traders, artisans and families looking to enjoy the festive season close to home.
“The SDLP has consistently pushed for a revitalised market space that draws people into the city – and this announcement is a clear step in that direction. Newry Market is a key asset for our city and events like this show how it can be a hub for community life and economic activity. The confirmation of a Christmas Market is a great achievement and an important milestone. Alongside my SDLP colleagues, I will be working to ensure that this event is a success, that the organisers are fully supported, and that this is the start of something new and exciting for people in Newry.”
