Write a commentFive men will appear in court today in relation to a shooting incident in the Altmore Gardens area of Newry on Monday.
The five men aged 23, 27, 28, 29, and 29 have been charged with a number of offences, including Aiding and Abetting, Possession of Firearm in Suspicious Circumstances, Possession of an Offensive Weapon, Obstructing Police and Assisting Offenders, and Taking and Driving Away a Motor Vehicle.
All five are due to appear at Newry Magistrates Court today.
Newry SDLP Councillor Michael Savage has condemned the shooting incident saying it is miracle no-one was killed or badly injured.
Councillor Savage also praised the actions of local police who were quick to arrive on the scene of the shooting at Altmore Gardens.
He said: “We all thought the days of guns on our streets were over. This is an act of lunacy and it is a miracle no-one has been killed or badly injured as a result of shots being fired at a house in a built up area. Local people are furious that this can happen in their area.
