Diarmuid Farmer

Forkhill man Diarmuid Farmer also known as Wooly certainly has picked a good time of the year to take a cold water dip a day in aid of Southern Area Hospice. Double digit temperatures need not apply, in fact this morning he had to use an axe to break the ice to allow him to get in to his container of choice. Today it was a balmy 1.2 degrees Celsius and once he did make it in to the water he liked it so much he stayed for 5 minutes.

Farmer has decided to do his 'Dip a Day' Challenge in December and every day he will be dipping in cold water whether it be a shower, a rain barrel, the sea or whatever. Lets hope it doesn't get much colder or the ice will be too thick to break through.

He explains " I'm raising money for Southern Area Hospice and your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate £5 or £500.

Each year, the Hospice fundraising department has the momentous task of funding approximately two-thirds of the running costs of the Hospice annually. To date, this has only been made possible with the fantastic continued support from our volunteers and the local community across the Southern Health Board region in assisting the fundraising team throughout the year.

With continuous increasing operating costs, we have an ambitious fundraising target of £3.2 million. This equates to £267,000 per month, £61,538 per week, £8,791per day, £366 per hour that needs to be funded to enable the Southern Area Hospice Services to continue to provide specialist care to those who need it the most.
