HSCNI Adoption and Foster Care are out and about in Newry over the next couple of weeks. One of the young people in their care, Ben*, 8, has recently experienced a number of tough challenges. HSCNI Foster Care social worker, Elaine Martin, developed an encouraging relationship with him and wanted to seek out positive experiences to help lift his spirits. A chance encounter on her commute resulted in one of his biggest dreams coming true.
A supercar fanatic, Ben loves all things fast and powerful. Elaine spotted a super McLaren at JMD Motors, Cloughoge, Newry, and seized her opportunity. Explaining to the staff about Ben’s enthusiasm for high-performance motoring, they were more than willing to give him an experience he would never forget. Ben was treated to a visit of their premises and got to sit behind the wheel of the McLaren for a cheeky rev of the accelerator, before being taken for a spin.
HSCNI give a huge thank you to JMD Motors for this wonderful opportunity, and a special mention to Elaine for her dedication and commitment.
Throughout March, the Adoption and Foster Care agency will be out and about in Newry as part of their ‘Foster Care Comes to Town’ campaign, to raise awareness and celebrate the contribution foster carers make.
If you think you could make a difference in a child’s life and want to find out more, drop by our information session in the Canal Court Hotel on Wednesday 29 March, between 1pm – 8pm.
