A fundraising walk is being held in support of Lisa McKeever, a teacher at Abbey Christian Brothers' Grammar School in Newry, who has been on a long recovery journey following a life-changing road accident in November 2025. The Friends of Lisa Fundraising Walk will take place on 5 September 2026 at St Colmcille's GFC, Grange, County Armagh, starting at 10.00am. A Just Giving page that has been set up to support the event has already raised over £6000.
Lisa is a devoted wife, mum and friend, as well as a much-loved teacher, and her family, friends and wider community have rallied around her with support throughout her recovery. The main aim of the event is to support Lisa and her continued recovery journey, with a donation also being made to Air Ambulance Northern Ireland in recognition of the lifesaving service it provides.
The Just Giving page explains that Lisa has always been someone who puts others first. Her kindness, warmth and positive spirit have touched so many lives. Following the accident, Lisa spent weeks in intensive care before beginning the long road to recovery. While her journey continues, her determination, courage and resilience inspire everyone around her each and every day.
Organisers hope the event will bring together Lisa's family, friends, colleagues, pupils, the GAA community and people from the wider Newry and Armagh area to show her the level of support behind her. A family member explained: "The incredible love, prayers and support shown by our family, friends, local community and beyond have meant more than words can say. We are so grateful to everyone who has stood beside us."
