Damage caused by the burning of bonfire material including pallets and tyres off the Armagh Road in Newry has been condemned by a local residents group
Spokesperson for the Group, John McCabe said "For several weeks now the Lisdrum Concerned Residents Group in partnership with Independent Councillor Gavin Malone and volunteers have embarked upon a environmental clean up at Drumgullion Avenue and Lisgullion Park Newry.
"As you see those with not the best interests of our community at heart have started this year to gather bonfire material including toxic tyres and burnt some of the material in the playfield very close to the children's play park.
"I have contacted the Housing Executive and Councillor Malone will work at Council level to seek assistance.
"These individuals perhaps could offer the community something more constructive and less destructive, either way they won't deter us from our community development. Such incidents once again highlights the need for a Community Association and to this end as soon as it is safe to do so one will be formed."
