A fundraiser has been set up to help a Polish woman get treatment for a brain tumor. Thirty two year old Alina Wirzynkiewicz has many friends in Newry and the mother of three underwent an operation on the tumor in September. Dan Gebski from Newry is hoping that her friends here could help by either sharing or donating.
As Alina explains "After the operation I will face expensive treatment in Germany in Colonia, which I can not afford. This is immunotherapy - modern , incredibly effective and incredibly expensive treatment."
Diagnosed with a rare malignant Brain Tumour, Anaplastic Astrocytoma grade 3 Alina hope the treatment might help her see her children aged 5,10 and 12 grow up. "I have to do my best to see them grow up. To tell them how much I love them. How proud I am of them."
Friend Monika Fularczyk who set up the fundraiser said "I’m hoping to raise funds to help Alina receive private treatment, medicine, surgery and living expenses abroad.
"Alina is suffering from anemia for years, but in October 2019 she felt much worse ( headache, vomiting, dizziness). Alina was admitted to hospital and MRI confirmed that the cause of her symptoms was down to a brain tumour. Her world has been turned upside down by this disease. Doctors give her several years with treatment but she is not giving up and wants to find help somewhere else."
