Gardaí in Dundalk are appealing for information on a hit and run road traffic collision in the town on Sunday 15 December which left a Newry woman with serious injuries. The woman was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a serious road traffic collision shortly after 1pm on Sunday at the Armagh Road (R177) junction with the Toberona Road.

A car was struck by an SUV resulting in injuries to the sole occupant. The two occupants of the SUV, which was earlier the subject of an unauthorised taking, fled the scene on foot and have yet to come forward.

Investigating Gardaí have conducted a technical examination of the scene and both vehicles involved, and the road has since been fully reopened to traffic.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward. In addition, road users who may have dash-cam footage from the area at the time of the incident are also urged to contact Gardaí.

Anyone with any information, is asked to contact Dundalk Garda Station on (042) 9388400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
