Newry households on the natural gas network are set to see their bills fall from 1 April 2026, after firmus energy  announced a further reduction to its domestic tariffs. It's not known currently how or when the current war in Iran will affect natural gas pricing but as of now the firm has announced a reduction.

The Newtownabbey-based company, one of Northern Ireland's largest natural gas suppliers, has confirmed a 10.1% reduction in tariffs for all domestic customers in the Ten Towns Network area, which includes Newry and surrounding villages. The cut will save households an average of more than £92 per year.

The Ten Towns Network area includes Antrim, Armagh, Ballymena, Ballymoney, Banbridge, Coleraine, Craigavon (including Lurgan and Portadown), Limavady, Derry/Londonderry, Newry and more than 25 other towns and villages in the surrounding areas.

This is the third consecutive tariff reduction firmus energy Supply has made for Ten Towns Network customers in just over a year. The company previously reduced its gas tariff by 11.84% in April 2025 and by a further 7.86% last October. Combined, the three reductions amount to a 27% decrease in tariffs since April last year, representing a cumulative saving of around £300 per customer.

Ryan Miskimmin, Sales Director at firmus energy Supply, said: "As Northern Ireland's largest gas supplier by volume, we want to provide the best value possible to all our customers by reducing tariffs when possible."

He added that the latest reduction had followed engagement with the Utility Regulator and the Consumer Council. "This latest reduction of 10.1%, which follows engagement with the Utility Regulator and the Consumer Council, is sure to be welcomed by our growing number of customers who have made the switch to natural gas."

Mr Miskimmin said the savings to date had been substantial. "Since April last year, our consecutive reductions have decreased our tariffs by 27% with a cumulative saving of around £300 per customer."

The company has also confirmed that tariffs for the Greater Belfast Network area are currently under review.
