Gavin Eaton is Winner of June Round in Newry.ie Photographer of the Year

Gavin Eaton is the winner of the June round of the Newry.ie Photographer of the Year and will be the recipient of this months prize worth £25.

This month our judges vote agreed with the public vote and Gavin Eaton got a maximum 100 points. It leaves him in the lead overall on 276 points with three months of the competition gone, but plenty of opportunity yet to catch up. Tomasz Pietruszka is in second place overall with 254 points

His portrait was of a young girl lying down, looking to the right and our judge thought it was a wonderful capture , well framed and well exposed. In Second place was Janine McArdle with her portrait of her father. Our judge said it was a classic portrait using the rule of thirds. In third place was Caolan Quinn's image of a young girl in rain. Our judge thought it was nicely framed to tell a story.

July Theme

We would love to see a lot more people enter this time round. The July challenge will require competitors to photograph an architectural scene that captures Newry, whether it be small or vast, taken day or night. It could be the new estate being built or an old road leading into town, a religious building or Georgian row or anything you think fits the bill.
