Planning permission has been applied for holiday accommodation on the Flagstaff Road in Newry. With glamping fastly becoming the new five star accommodation of choice the application would see the provision of three glamping pods with associated access, car parking and landscaping.
The views from the elevated site opposite Barracric Road are spectacular looking as it does over Carlingford Lough, back towards Newry and towards the Mournes while also hidden from view of the road.
Currently the site is grazing land. A concept statement for the project said "This unique location will create a new tourist attraction with spectacular views of Carlingford Lough and the Mournes. Due to the hidden location it will not create any detrimental visual impact. The existing topography and location of the development will mean it is not visible from the public road and will be secluded for the tourists who will visit." The applicant will also be planting new native species trees on the site.
