A vigil to mark the 200th day since the start of Israel’s military assault on Gaza will take place in Camlough village on Wednesday 24 April at 7.30pm.

The event is being organised by the group, ‘Gaels Against Genocide’. Pat McGinn who is part of the organising committee explained,

“Gael’s Against Genocide have been active throughout Ireland  in highlighting the continued Genocide in Gaza.

Our Group is open to all like minded Gael’s, Groups and individuals whose  objective is the demand for a permanent ceasefire and the immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza”.

Pat continued ”Gaels against Genocide in Gaza are encouraging all to get involved in a Day of Action across Ireland on Wednesday April 24th to mark 200 Days of Genocide in Gaza.

Our local Group is organising a vigil in Camloch village on Wednesday 24 April at 7.30pm”.

Pat  has been actively involved in highlighting the ongoing situation in Gaza and recently completed 95km distance virtually from Gaza to Occupied East Jerusalem raising much needed funds for the Charity Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP). Speaking about the current situation he said, “ Since 7 October 2023, Israeli military attacks have killed more than 33,109 Palestinians, including 13,850 children, and injured at least 75,750 more. This is an average rate of 179 people killed, or 75 children, per day.

"Without an immediate ceasefire these numbers will continue to grow.  I share the belief of many that  an immediate ceasefire and the immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza will create the conditions for release of hostages and prisoners and allow a full and proper focus on developing a solution”.

Concluding the Gaels Against Genocide spokesperson said “ We invite sports teams, club members and individuals to attend. We would be delighted if those attending would wear their club/county colours.

The vigil will consist of several individuals giving a short reflection on the situation in Gaza and their feelings on it. Like all events organised by Gaels Against Genocide, it will be inclusive and respectful. We encourage all to attend and “don’t stop talking about Palestine”
