A volunteer at ReStore in Newry has been acknowledged with a ReStore Gold Award at the recent Habitat Ireland’s Building Hope event. Kieran Morgan who has already given more than 500 hours of his time to the store was presented with the award at the Building Hope event run by Habitat for Humanity Ireland.
The ‘Habitat family’ across Ireland got together to celebrate 30 years of breaking down barriers, building hope and all of the impacts that Habitat have locally and around the world. The event was the perfect opportunity for Habitat to recognise individual volunteer’s contribution.
Jenny Williams, Chief Executive of Habitat Ireland, presented the awards, and spoke about the impact ReStore has for the local community. “Kieran has been volunteering with us in ReStore Newry for 3 years every Saturday afternoon, to date giving more than 500 hours of his time. Kieran loves supporting and training other staff and volunteers, helping them building their confidence to achieve their PAT testing qualification and experience. He is also a great ambassador for our mission and work taking time to chat to our customers and, anyone else who will listen, about our impact.” she said.
The ReStore volunteers, across six stores on the island of Ireland make a huge contribution by investing 3,500 hours every month in reaching out to their local community.
Through ReStore, Habitat builds sustainable communities and directly tackle poverty across Ireland. Each year the charity serves thousands of local people; many who cannot afford commercial prices to improve their homes, diverts tons of reusable material from landfill which helps build a more sustainable future and provides training and employment opportunities for people of all backgrounds and abilities.
