Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is inviting you to put forward your views on the draft performance improvement objectives 2022-23. They have also published figures showing their performance from 2018.

Draft Performance Improvement Objectives 2022-23

  1. We will encourage local people to lead healthy and active lives by improving the quality of our parks and open spaces
  2. We will grow the economy by supporting local businesses and creating new jobs
  3. We will improve the cleanliness of our District by addressing littering, fly tipping and dog fouling incidents
  4. We will build the capacity of local communities through the Financial Assistance Scheme
  5. We will improve the processing times of planning applications and enforcement cases by implementing the Planning Service Improvement Programme
Active and Healthy

A Council Spokesperson said "We are keen to ensure that our performance improvement objectives have a positive impact on the quality of life of everyone across the District, including citizens, local businesses, partner organisations in the statutory, voluntary and community sectors, employees and Elected Members.

"Your feedback will help inform the final performance improvement objectives which will be published in the Performance Improvement Plan 2022-23 by 30 June 2022."

Grow Economy

Graphs from the 'Consultation on the draft Performance Improvement Objectives 2022-2023' show figures from 2018 to present.

Active and Healthy

Visitors to Kilbroney Forest Park increased year on year while Slieve Gullion, Carlingford Lough Greenway and Warrenpoint Park saw falls in numbers.

Cleanliness

Growing the Economy

New businesses and jobs promoted through the Go For It initiative have been fairly similar in the past 3 years.

Cleanliness of District

Trend has been less environmental projects, less fixed penalty notices and less community cleanups. This in part would be due to the pandemic. Waste collection has more or less remained the same.

Active and Healthy

Financial Assistance

The percentage of successful financial assistance applications has remained static this past 3 years but the percentage that received funding is down by 7%.

Planning

Overall planning applications are taking less processing time.
