Newry BID is offering a full schedule of free events and activities throughout May in Newry city centre as part of their Health in the City programme.

The programme is open to people of all ages and covers a wide range of health, wellbeing and active living activities, taking place at multiple locations throughout the city. All events are free, with a small number reserved exclusively for BID member businesses. Full details and booking information are available at Newry.com.

One of the headline events is the Family and Business Trika, taking place at No Bull Gym on Sunday 31 May. Trika is a community-based fitness event offering an accessible alternative to high-intensity competitions such as Hyrox, and is suitable for all fitness levels. It is designed to encourage teamwork, making it suitable for families, friends and workplace teams.

Among the wellbeing workshops on offer is Strength from Within with Lianne McCooey, hosted at Sugar House Cafe. The session focuses on resilience, mindset and self-compassion, with all costs covered by Newry BID.

In partnership with the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, the programme includes free health checks and skincare awareness sessions as part of the Care in the Sun campaign, aimed at supporting early detection and preventative health. Practical safety sessions are also included, with self-defence training for women and girls delivered in partnership with Strike Back Self Defence, as well as financial health checks and fraud awareness workshops with Bank of Ireland and Ulster Bank.

Weekly activity features throughout the programme, with Movement on the Mall taking place every Wednesday at Buttercrane Shopping Centre. The sessions offer chair-based movement and yoga delivered by instructors from The Powerhouse, Newry, with free refreshments provided for all participants.

Further events include the Penalty Shootout Challenge and a series of creative and wellbeing workshops for families, young people and young adults at Studio 23.

Eamonn Connolly, Manager of Newry BID, said: "Health in the City is about making wellbeing accessible to everyone. We have created a programme that removes barriers to participation, with free events right across the city that people can simply book and take part in.

"We would encourage everyone, whether you are coming along on your own, with family or as part of a team, to get involved and make the most of what is on offer over the coming weeks."

The Health in the City programme continues until the end of May, with booking open now for all events at Newry.com.
