A newly opened trauma and orthopaedic clinic at Daisy Hill Hospital is now providing enhanced services for local patients. The clinic, located on the ground floor in the former physiotherapy department behind the coffee bar, will operate five days a week offering specialist fracture and orthopaedic outpatient clinics.

During a recent visit to Daisy Hill, Health Minister Mike Nesbitt toured the new facility and met with staff to learn about the services it offers. The clinic will serve patients with bone and joint conditions, restoring a vital service to the hospital that had been relocated during the pandemic.

In 2020, the trauma and orthopaedic clinics at Daisy Hill were moved to Craigavon Hospital to comply with COVID-19 social distancing guidelines. Now, thanks to £175,000 in funding from the Department of Health and the collaborative efforts of the estates team, the clinic has returned to its original location at Daisy Hill, offering patients greater convenience and access to care.

Brigeen Kelly, Head of Trauma and Orthopaedics for the Southern Trust, highlighted the importance of reopening the clinic at Daisy Hill “Demand for trauma and orthopaedic services has been steadily increasing. Currently, we see around 680 attendances each week for fracture and orthopaedic outpatient clinics. With limited access to x-ray facilities and space when working from a single site, the number of patients we could see at any one time was restricted. We are thrilled to be back at Daisy Hill with a modern facility that will help us reduce waiting times and improve service delivery.”
