Helena Young Elected as Chair of Alliance Party

Local Alliance party member and community champion Helena Young has become the first Newry Alliance Party member to be elected as Chair of the Party.

Helena was proposed by Stephen Farry and seconded by Stephen Martin at today's Alliance Party AGM. She replaces Alderman Stephen Martin.

In the 2019 Newry, Mourne and Down local council elections she came close to gaining a seat in the Newry constituency with only 42 votes separating her from the last Councillor elected.

Alliance Councillor Patrick Brown has congratulated Ms Young saying "Huge congratulations to Helena Young on being elected as the new Chair of the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland. The first Newry member to hold the position - an excellent choice and able representative.

The Rowallane Councillor added "Congratulations also to all incoming Party Executive members and office holders and good luck for the year ahead!"
