Newry woman Helena Young has been selected as an Alliance Councillor for the Slieve Croob area in Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.
It follows the appointment of her predecessor Andrew McMurray as an MLA for South Down to replace Patrick Brown who stepped down from the post in April.
Ms Young has been an Alliance Party representative in Newry for quite a few years. In 2020 she was elected as Chair of Alliance while in the 2019 Newry, Mourne and Down local council elections she came very close to gaining a seat in the Newry constituency with only 42 votes separating her from the last Councillor elected.
She joins Alliance Councillors Cadogan Enright, Tierna Howie, David Lee-Surginor and Jill Truesdale in the Council Chamber.
